Improv 2-23-11

Late last week I received an email about doing time at the Arlington Improv. I jumped at the chance, the pay wasn't great, but it's a way to get my foot in the door. I ended up doing a feature set of 25 Mins at an Improv. This is a major deal. I made sure to get plenty of pictures and video of my performance. I should get all that uploaded pretty soon. The manager that booked me asked me to bring two comics to do time with me. I wanted to take Javier and Blair, but Blair couldn't make due to personal reasons.

Wednesday afternoon couldnt come fast enough. I get to the LOL to pick up Javi at 1pm. We pack up, select some tasty james and hit I35 n. to Arlington. Everything was going good, made some pit stops and find a 7-11 in Corscicana TX that sells $10 Rice Krispies Treat Sheets. (Nah we didn't get any) We did get Slurpees at every 7-11 we stopped at. I kept the cups to use for some drankin'
We arrive 2 hours before showtime to check in, to hear the manager going "Aww Crap" because she forgot to book a room for us. She welcomed us and then went to her office to straighten out our room. We were happy enough just to be there. at an IMRPOV, the premiere chain of comedy clubs. I would've driven up there and slept in my car for the night just for a guest spot. To kill time before the show started we went to a restaurant and ordered some drinks to get our set lists in order. Both of us were in between excited and freaking out at the same time. It's been a while since Ive had that feeling. We get the call to come back to the club so we can check into the Hotel. The Improv put us up in a La Quinta, I could get use to this. I was telling Javi that 1 nice trip like this is worth 10 valley runs of shitty drivers and vermin infested Hotel Rooms.

A camera crew sets up and introduces themselves to us. They were there to film the headliner for his Stand Up DVD special. The crew also informed us that they were going to be filming us too. No Pressure right? Javi and I were going to be filming each other anyway. I mean how many times do I get to perform in front of an Improv logo? For the special occasion I laced up some brand new "Kool-Aid" edition Reebok classics. Proving once again, you look good, you feel good.

The Show went well, all who performed that night got praise from a lot of the people there. Management also liked my set. I got to hand out a ton of my newly minted "fan cards". To which a lot of people added me on facebook and twitter as well. Javi and I stayed at the bar with the bartender enjoying the free fruits of our labor getting a decent buzz on. We hang out till the crowd leaves and for the Manager to finish her paperwork before we joined the headliner at the After-party at the pub across the street. I was kinda hoping to get a check with the Improv logo on it, but I was paid in cash. I was also instructed to send my availability to come back to open soon. I am so excited at this prospect. The Improv brings a major name in week in week out. We get more pictures taken at the after party have a couple more drinks and then head back to the Hotel Room. No one could take the smile off of my face. The whole time I kept thinking "I got to FEATURE at an IMRPOV" It really makes those nights where I do 3 sets at 3 venues worth it. Gonna keep hustling and keep working.
