Braving the Cold

It's freezing here in San Antonio... literally. 24 Degrees last night. It's gonna be that cold again tonight and tomorrow night. I hope it doesn't deter people from good comedy. Tonight Ill be at NightRocker. A rock club that is a challenge for comics to play. I look forward to performing there when I can. I really like the the staff, owner and the venue is top notch. And the fact they have $2 Lonestar Tallboys and $1 Perrito Tequilla (#Follow them) shots helps too. I like performing in places where people don't expect comedy, places where it's an uphill battle for comics to perform at. I figure the more of these types of gigs I deal and overcome with, the better Ill become as a performer in the long run. So if I do end up in New York, or in some Biker bar in Podunk Kansas I'll do alright 'cause I got my chops. When the battle is harder it makes the victory that much sweeter.

Below is a video of a set I did recently at NightRocker. The crowd was not engaged at all. I was asked to perform because the previous performers were, in fact shit. I wouldnt even call them Open Mikers, that would imply they actually practiced performing.

So I went up on stage and commanded the crowds attention. Most of them were there for a band that was going on later anyway. I decided to go up there full on aggressive in your face comedy mode. It felt like I was channeling a little bit of Sam Kinnison there. Point is I made the crowd listen not only with stage presence, demeanor, attitude but with jokes as well. Once a person laughs at one joke, it's you're job as a comic to keep their attention. Build trust with the audience and they'll follow you on a journey that is your act. At least that's the way I look at it. Plus I know how I do after a show if people want to buy me said Lonestars and $1 Tequila shots.

Also Friday February 4th Ill be at Hotties Sports Bar! with Bobby Henline and Headliner Joan Riviera aka "A Must See Latina Comedian". Looking forward to this show. Hopefully people will get out of the cold and get ready for some hot comedy.
