Rang in the new year like I did last year, and that was working. I wasn't in Paris........Texas this time. I was at my home club in Downtown San Antonio the Rivercenter comedy club. After the 2 shows for new years me, the staff and the audience went to the roof of the parking garage to see the fireworks. Where I broke my New Years resolution of not watching fireworks.
I had the pleasure of working with Headliner Todd Paul, who is a super nice, funny and talented performer. I had a good time watching his show and interacting with audience members. Todd Paul does magic, but its more like anti-magic where he exposes all the pomp and circumstance, the pretentiousness if you will of a typical Las Vegas "Illusionist" act. He also juggles, does that ball rolling thing that is super hard to do, if you don't know what you're doing. I also got to work with Todd Larson, former roommate and current waiter at LOL.
When reaching the end of one year, and beginning of a new one. One takes time to reflect on what has happened both good and bad to them. Has all the triumphs and struggles made me a better person/performer/friend? I hope so, everyone should want to better themselves, as long as its for the right reasons. In the past 12 months I've lost my car, my cat, in some respects my Dad. We had a falling out and it has nothing to do with the bit I do about him. But I've also gained a lot. I got to go Boston for the Boston Comedy Festival. I now have a Podcast, I won an award, I got to be a feature at Rivercenter twice. I've been lucky enough to do what I love for a living. Comedy is something I'm very passionate about. A newer comic asked me if it ever feels like work. Well comedy club shows on Wednesdays and Thursdays do. Those are the slower days, where it does feel like work, because you have to make up for the energy that is not there.
This January, I'm really busy and I am excited for that. In the span of a month, well 2 weeks really Ill be in Austin, Dallas and Beaumont. Throw in a couple one niter's here and there, a week at the club and a birthday party this Saturday, I'm staying busy.
One resolution I have and want to keep is to see my family in West Virginia. This is the third Christmas in a row I have not spent with them, and it tears me up inside. My sister, brother in law and nieces have ALWAYS been supportive of my dream. I really miss them, and spending time with them. So one of my goals this year will be to see them in person.
This week it's Austin, see above. Then the rest of the week at LOL, Saturday a Birthday Party, then Dallas and Beaumont next week. In between that Ill be teaching class and working on podcast eps.
